Session at Vidigal (Sheraton) Beach - Rio de Janeiro
- RJ
25/10/07 19:09
It had been a really long time since the last time we saw some nice waves at Vidigal Beach (also known as Sheraton Beach) but on the weekend of october the 20th we had the pleasure to do a really nice and long session there. Actually on the day before we got some nice waves there but we couldn't shoot because it was raining. So on Saturday we decided to get to the beach pretty early even though the weather was kind of crappy and the tide was low. The day wasn't beautiful but the waves were definitely there.

Munir, showing that he knows his way to the shades at Vidigal Beach as well...
Munir riding on a "cutty little wave" like his described the waves that day...
But for our surprise the weather was getting better and the sun was starting to show up...
Munir on one of the many nice and green waves of the day. When the swell is coming from south in Rio it's very likely that the ocean is going to get this nice crazy shade of green...
Munir and his now well known "I told you the waves were gonna be good here today" pose
When the sun showed up the light got really nice to shoot...
Munir on another nice green wave...
Sessions like this one makes you want to skim more and more!
Munir, on one of the most beautiful waves of the day.
Morgan also knows his way to the shade...
Nice waves, sunny day and no one else at the beach make Munir and Morgan really happy guys...
The only witness of our morning session...
Munir and his nice thick spray...
Munir and his shade... The waves didn't have the same size as theones we got at Itacoatiara Beach but it was nothing that a really low stance couldn't make it up for... CLICK HERE to see the sequence of this shot.
In the afternoon a lot of skimmer arrived at the beach. At one point there were 13 skimmers which is pretty weird for us. First, because we are not used to this many people skimming together. Second because Vidigal Beach is really small which makes matters worse...
Matheus Chiabi is only 13 years old and is riding pretty well!!
Munir kept riding the nicest waves of the day....
It got all cloudy again on the afternoon...
But Munir kept the backside wraps rolling...
A lot of times too many people ran for the same wave... we almost had some nasty accidents...
Guilherme... CLICK HERE to see the sequence of this picture... he did landed that!
Matheus on another nice wave...
Guilherme also found a nice little shade...
Lucas (Caco) is another promising kid!
After a long day Munir still had enough on his legs to pull out this nice shuv it.. Click here to see the entire sequence!!!
After hours and hours of skimboarding we went back home tired but happy... and the waves... believe us... were still on!

Once again Itacoatiara Beach Niteroi RJ
13/10/07 21:39
Saturday october 6th 7:00am, we headed once again to
Itacoatiara Beach. The hopes for good conditions were
really high so driving at 40 MPH, yeah at Niteroi
they have lots and lots of speed controls at 40MPH,
was even more annoying than usual. After picking up
Munir and Leticia and stopping for some breakfast we
got to Itacoatiara Beach. We could easily see this
really nice waves breaking perfectly for skimming
from the road so we just took everything out of the
car as fast as we could and started out session.

But this really strong wind came out of nowhere...

The crew were disappointed but the hopes for the wind to stop where still there. After waiting for quite a long time, just like it came the on shore wind changed to an off shore wind. So now the waves were breaking perfectly for regular footers. We took lots of pics during this session so wait because there is still stuff to come!

We ended up staying at the beach until the sunset. If you happen to spend the night at Niteroi make sure you go see the MAC (Museum of Contemporary Art) which is this crazy looking building projected by a famous brazilian architect called Oscar Niemayer. But be careful Brazil is probably the only country in the world that you will need an authorization to take pictures of a museum!!! So if you want a picture of the UFO looking thing make sure you use your James Bond skills.

Session at Ipanema Beach - Rio de Janeiro - RJ
13/10/07 20:00
Ipanema during the weekend
The summer is just around the corner which means good conditions at Ipanema Beach. During the weekend of October 12th Ipanema finally gave us some nice waves. A lot skimmer from Rio de Janeiro live at Ipanema Beach so there were a lot of riders stoked at riding at their "backyards". Some of them actually stayed at the beach from sunrise to sunset.

Skimming at Ipanema Beach during a sunny weekend isn't exactly easy. The number of beach goers is incredible but because the water was pretty cold it was a bit easier to ride.
Besides the beach goers crowd there was the skimmers crowd... which doesn't happen often here; Photo: Andre Magarao
Everyone was stoked after almost a entire week of good waves at Ipanema Beach
Even some riders who weren't skimming lately decided to show up; Photo: Andre Magarao

It might be crowded but it's inspiring! We gotta keep "the girls from Ipanema" famous right?!
Rare thing... Gabidu skimming!; Photo: Andre Magarao

On the next day the swell changed a bit and the conditions were quite different but there was still some really nice waves... Since it was cloudy the beach wasn't as crowded which made things easier...
